Miami City Ballet Miami Theatre reviews
Beautiful but a bit uncomfortable
I recently attended the Miami City Ballet's "Fresh & Fierce" mixed program, and the first two performances, Divertimento No. 15 and Sentimiento were truly breathtaking.
However, the third piece, "West Side Story Suite," fell short of my expectations. The decision to have the dancers sing during the performance felt rather awkward, as the vocal quality was subpar, making it difficult to comprehend or even hear the lyrics. This detracted from the overall experience.
On the other hand, the introduction featured a professional singer alongside a solo dancer, which was a mesmerizing combination. The finale also impressed, as it showcased pre-recorded vocals from professional singers.
Despite the disappointing singing moments during "West Side Story Suite," I am grateful the entire show wasn't solely based on this performance.
